Did we shame our Congressman into voting
the right way for the BAILOUT bill?
Why isn’t our Congressman outraged will all the earmark (Pork Barrel Spending) loaded in the BAILOUT bill? The public is definitely outraged, maybe because he is the number 6th earmark spender in Washington. Or is he just worried about being re-elected after 24 years of being in Congress? Well here is some of the “PORK” in the bill listed below.
The special provisions include tax breaks for:
* Manufacturers of kids’ wooden arrows - $6 million.
* Puerto Rican and Virgin Is- lands rum producers - $192 million.
* Wool research.
* Auto-racing tracks - $128 million.
* Corporations operating in American Samoa - $33 million.
* Small- to medium-budget film and television productions - $10 million.
Another measure inserted into the bill appears to be a bald-faced bid aimed at winning the support of Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), who voted against the original version when it went down in flames in the House on Monday.
That provision - a $223 million package of tax benefits for fishermen and others whose livelihoods suffered as a result of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill - has been the subject of fervent lobbying by Alaska’s congressional delegation.
Some of the pork-barrel measures buried in the financial rescue package had been contained in a bill that previously passed the Senate, but died in the House.
The Congressional Budget Office said the package of breaks - including obvious pork and some more defensible tax-relief measures - will add about $112 billion to budget deficits over the next five years because the bill doesn’t contain enough offsetting revenue hikes to keep the budget balanced.

Senate passes bailout 74-25 Taxpayers’ Lose
Let’s be honest: the House of Representatives couldn’t pass the BAILOUT bill the first time this week but yet just like with Y2K despite all the scare tactics and dire warnings of imminent catastrophe we heard would occur if Congress did not pass this bill, nothing happened. The free market is functioning! Hopefully the House will vote down this bill also which is nearly exactly the same as the first one that failed in the House. This bill is still a Wall Street bailout. Congress allowed the weakening of the lending laws so everyone could have home ownership under the Clinton administration and now it is collapsing. Let the free market take it’s course; nobody will be there to bailout the little ma and pa business under the Bailout legislation as it currently exists. Thank you to Congressman Mike Pence, R-IN, for standing up to the bailout in the House of Representatives and being a voice for Main Street.

Lake County Republican Chairman Endorses
Democratic Congressional Candidate
John Curely, Lake County Republican Chairman on WJOB, Monday morning praised and endorsed the Democratic congressional incumbent for a win in November. This is very good news for the Leyva campaign because every candidate John Curley has worked for or endorsed has lost their political race. The down side to this is: it is a shame that our Republican Chairman isn’t loyal to his own party. I will not let statements from anyone, Republican or Democrat, stop me from doing my best for the district of Northwest Indiana.

Leyva is a working man looking out for working people
We have some real critical choices to make this November, not only for president but for Congress. Who really is for the working men and women of our district?
Washington is having a budget deficit for highway funds because of the lost revenues from taxpayers not driving as much. This will mean less money for road construction project around the country and possibly here.
If the price of gas were to go down, we would be driving more and financing our road and highway projects. Drilling at the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge and offshore would be a good start to become oil independent and help stop the largest transfer of wealth out of our country through the foreign oil profits. Remember, this also finances terrorism.
Now the incumbent does not want us to drill, Mark Leyva is totally in favor of responsible drilling. I think the answer of who is the right choice in November is very clear.
Vote for real change. Vote for Mark Leyva for U.S. Congress. It makes sense. He is a working man looking out for interest of the working people.
